1958 Porsche 356 Speedster

One of the very last push rod Speedsters built.

We sold this car in 2006 to its sixth and most recent owner, who drove it sparingly over the past 20 years, adding approximately 3,000 miles. It remained part of an extensive collection that has since been dispersed, and this was the last vintage car to leave—an indication of just how much the owner enjoyed it.

The fifth owner, who owned the car from 2002 to 2006 and is a longtime Porsche 356 collector and restorer. He provided a wealth of additional history and believes the car retains all of its original sheet metal, including the floor pans, longitudinals, and battery box. Based on the car's history, this is certainly plausible, as it never lived in a salty climate. We also found no evidence of accident damage or collision repairs.

Ownership history:

The car was delivered new to a U.S. Air Force serviceman stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas. The Kardex confirms this location.
It was then sold to another serviceman at the same base.
The third owner, who kept the car for decades, was a civilian employee at Goodfellow AFB.
The fourth owner, Jack Griffin of Garages of America, commissioned a cosmetic refurbishment in the late 1990s, retaining the original color combination. The panel fit remains excellent throughout.
Around 2002, the fifth owner of Westport, Connecticut installed the current 356SC engine and desirable Type 741 gearbox, both sourced from a damaged 356SC Cabriolet that was believed to have had only about 30,000 miles. The stronger 741 transmission is a worthwhile upgrade over the original unit, particularly for cars with increased performance. We're told the original engine had failed many years earlier during the car's time at the Air Force base.

The date-coded 1958 Rudge wheels were also fitted by the fifth owner. Upon close inspection, they show no evidence of having ever been disassembled or restored and remain remarkably straight and original.
