1955 Ferrari 250 Europa GT
This 1955 Ferrari 250 Europa GT is the 16th of roughly 43 examples built of the inaugural model to carry Ferrari’s Grand Turismo designation. Custom ordered by Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, chassis 0387GT is believed to be one of only two GT Europas fitted with lightweight alloy Pinin Farina coachwork and one of two constructed on a Tipo 508/513 “Competition Prototipo” chassis featuring coil-spring front suspension. At the prince’s request, Ferrari re-stamped the car with chassis number 0139E to match a 212 Inter he had previously owned.
Sold to an English owner in 1960, the car remained in the UK until the mid-1980s before moving to Switzerland and later returning to the Netherlands in 1994. It was purchased by a French owner in 2001 and subsequently refurbished, during which several competition-style components were reportedly identified, including lightweight engine internals, an all-synchromesh gearbox, a limited-slip differential, a competition-type steering box, and 375 MM–style magnesium alloy drum brakes.
Following an additional refresh in 2010, the car was acquired by its current owner in 2015, imported to the United States, and treated to a mechanical overhaul that included rebuilds of the 3.0-liter Colombo V12 and four-speed manual transmission. Finished in its original black over beige leather, the car is equipped with triple Weber carburetors, 16" Borrani wire wheels, Houdaille shock absorbers, and Marchal fog and reverse lamps. Documentation includes correspondence from Ferrari and historian Antoine Prunet, a 2014 Marcel Massini report, and service invoices dating back to 2016.
